Hear the story of Fatima's little miracle: Houston. Remember Fatima, the 1980s refugee from Ethiopia? Whose dream of a better life in Europe came to a dead-end -- in war-torn Bosnia?

Well, sadly she died of TB and her daughter, Houston (you may know her by her Bosnian name, Leila), was left penniless, bereft and alone when her mother finally died.

But just eight days later -- Houston was on her way to a well-paid job in the US Government. The miracle depended on one phone call ...

... Blanka felt it her duty to care for the incapacitated Houston, and planned to take her back to London to be her guest. That was as far as her thinking went. She had no intention of contacting Admiral De Leon at Langley, and her stepfather Professor Hart would not have dreamt of doing it. Hart felt 'Little Miss Nightingale, ' as he called Houston, should be subjected to a barrage of psychological tests and brain scans. Blanka's reaction was emphatic: 'That's not going to happen.'

Will P. Hart, however, was a fifteen-year-old boy. The information that he was Blanka Maguire's younger brother finally got him put through to the senior OhZone liaison at the CIA, Adelle Wasson. Within twenty minutes he was speaking on the phone to the Director.

The news that Houston was in St Vincent's Hospital, New York, NY 10011, recovering from her collapse, that she was nineteen years old and blood group 'A' positive peaked the Admiral's interest. He asked two questions. Have you told your sister or your father you're calling me? Can you get Houston to come down to Langley?

When Will's answer to both was 'no, ' De Leon said, 'Well, if the mountain won't come to Mohammed, Mohammed must come to the mountain.'

So it was that at 14:00 hours, Monday April 13th, 2015, Admiral Keith De Leon, Adele Wasson and De Leon's security brief climbed off the Amex at Penn Station to be greeted by Blanka and Will.
'This was not my idea, ' said Blanka to De Leon.
'I know, ' said De Leon. 'But you know why I'm here. To recruit Houston, or whatever name she'd like to go by.'
'It's out of the question, ' said Blanka. 'You can't just recruit a girl like this to the CIA.'
'How were you recruited?' said De Leon.
'I know, ' chipped in Will. Blanka pretend-cuffed him around the ears.
'I didn't have total amnesia, ' said Blanka.
'You had other issues, ' said Will, laughing. 'And you were nineteen.'
Blanka started to reply, but De Leon held up his hand to silence her. 'Let me run the CIA, okay? Show us the way to the hospital. Let me determine what the young woman is capable of. What she can handle.'
